Virgin Falls Spring Day Hike

Details

When

May 10 at 7:00am

This is a Rescheduled Day Hike from March:

Team Green is partnering with Tn Division of Natural Areas for one of the best day hikes in TN. Journey through the scenic beauty of one of Tennessee*s best-loved hiking trails at Virgin Falls State Natural Area. We will take the strenuous 8-mile trail to the falls. This trail descends off of the Plateau, and meanders along the creek passing caves, sinks, and waterfalls. We will have lunch at the falls, which is remarkable due to the water pouring out of a cave mouth at the top of a bluff then falling over a hundred feet before being swallowed up by a sinkhole at the bottom. The trail then backtracks up and out of the gulf to the parking area. We will not go if it is raining or it is predicted to rain. Consult a weather report before the trip. Dress in layers, wear sturdy boots, and bring plenty of water and lunch. As with any strenuous backcountry hiking trip, please do not attempt this hike unless you are in good condition and able to negotiate difficult trail situations.

Meeting Place

Location: Meet at the Nashville Kroger store parking lot at 5544 Old
Hickory Blvd, Hermitage near Summit Medical Center east of town.

    Hi Everyone,

This hike is booked. If the weather cooperates we will have a great hike. I will send out an email on Friday morning with details or to cancel if the weather continues to look bad. For everyone else I hope you can make it to Virgin Falls sometimes.

Rain, Rain, Rain! Those trails get slippery when wet so I am canceling the hike. Keep an eye out for a reschedule.

I know this is a rescheduled hike, but are any spots left open?

  7. Elizabeth Kane | Apr 23, 06:14 PM

This is a fun hike. Have a great time. Let me know if there are any openings.

We hiked Virgin Falls for the first time on Friday May 2nd, my birthday (tired of birthday dinners, opted for a b’day hike instead). Absolutely loved the beautiful hike. One of my all-time favorites and at least 4 different falls along the way. By the way, did a dinner at the Sundance on the square in Smithville. I highly recommend it (tempura shrimp was the best!).

Question— How does one get to Martha’s Pretty Point on the Virgin Falls hike?

We are not Team Green Members, but would love to join. Any Murfreesboro members allowed?

Ever any hikes at Cumberland Gap Nat’l Park?

Thanks, and hopefully we’ll be joining soon.

    Carrie,

I am always glad to have anyone come on a hike with us. There are two trails to the right of the main trail that go up to the overlook. They are shown on the trail map you can download by searching for Virgin Falls.

Hope to see you on a trail.

    Forrest
