Team Green Adventures was established by Lightning 100 (WRLT 100.1 FM) in 1996 as a way to get our listeners involved in an active lifestyle. Since then, our audience has expanded to other cities and states, with members across the Nation and events across the Globe! STRENUOUS DAY HIKE: COLLINS GULF

Event Posting
The 9.9 mile Collins Gulf Trail, the 1.6 mile Stagecoach Road Historic Trail, and 0.4 miles of the Connector Trail combine to make one of the most fascinating loop hikes in the South Cumberland, with numerous overlooks and waterfalls, including Suter Falls. This spreading waterfall, the cascading creek and the massive rock walls of the gorge around Suter Falls make this setting one of the true spectacles of the Southeast. The Stagecoach Road Historic Trail follows the old route of the Stagecoach Road that ran from McMinnville to Chattanooga. The old roadbed, with its rock walls and stone cribbing, is on the National Register of Historic Places. The timing of this hike should allow for a stunning wildflower display in the gorge.

Deadline: Until booked. Waiting list available.
Children Policy: Children 15 years and up who can handle the mileage and terrain.
Dog Policy: Dogs allowed, but must be on a leash at all times.
The total length of the hike will be 13.1 miles and it is rated strenuous, so don’t forget to bring plenty of water, nutrition (snacks and lunch), rain gear and sturdy hiking shoes.
This trip is limited to 18 people.

Trail Description
We will be accessing the trail from the Collins Gulf trailhead in Gruetli-Laager, and will hike the 0.6 miles to the Collins Gulf Trail. From there we will turn left on the loop, pass a beautiful waterfall, and then descend into the gorge via switchbacks. The gorge section of this trail contains rocky terrain and several creek crossings. There are a couple of interesting, optional spur trails, to a waterfall and spring. After about 3.5 miles on this trail, we hook up with the Connector trail for a half mile, then begin the climb out of the gorge via the 1.6 mile stagecoach road. We will eat lunch along the stagecoach trail. The next 4-5 miles are on flat, easy terrain on the gorge rim, with some nice overlooks. We then descend steeply into the gorge and cross Collins River on a suspension bridge. The last mile is through a bolder field and provides some of the most taxing hiking of the loop, but is very beautiful. The climb back up to the trailhead is mostly gradual, with a steep section at the end.
