What to Bring You’ll need a bike, bike helmet, mountain bike shoes or tennis shoes. Any bike type is ok, though it’s recommended that you invest in fatter tires for your road bike.

A seasoned veteran (both male and female) will be at each session to teach you the basics of the sport, such as dismounting the bike at speed, going over barriers while suitcasing your bike (holding your bike by the top tube and handlebar to one side of your body), and remounting the bike while still running. And yes, you can do all that without bringing harm to yourself, if you practice.

About Cyclocross

Courses will consist of grass and asphalt over varying terrain with sand pits, run ups, and at least one set of man-made barriers. Course distances will range between 1.5 and 2.0 miles. Some courses will be fast and flowing with little elevation gain, while others will have significant climbing. Courses will be clearly marked with stakes and flagging throughout, except where long stretches of asphalt are used and course obviously follows the road. Courses will be at least 10 feet wide throughout to allow for easy maneuvering and passing. Courses will either feature two individual pits or one double pit. Some courses may feature as many as three sets of man-made barriers. Each Sunday race will take place on the same course as the Saturday race, but will be run in opposite direction.

The practice sessions will ultimately culminate with the race series beginning October 3rd running through February 21st.
