Team Green Adventures was established by Lightning 100 (WRLT 100.1 FM) in 1996 as a way to get our listeners involved in an active lifestyle. Since then, our audience has expanded to other cities and states, with members across the Nation and events across the Globe! Backpacking Trip to Big South Fork to the Angel Falls & Grand Gap

WHEN: February 23-24th, @ 8:00am sharp, rain or shine

DETAILS: Enjoy a weekend of backpacking and sightseeing as we hike along the infamous John Muir Trail to Angel Falls, a beautiful waterfall on the Cumberland River. We’ll also hike the Grand Gap Loop, which offers mountain vistas and beautiful scenery of the twisting and turning Cumberland River far below. We start along the John Muir Trail for about three miles, see Angel Falls and the beautiful scenery, then embark on the 7 mile ridge trail called the Grand Gap Loop. This trail follows the ridgeline along the Grand Gap, where you can see the Cumberland River raging far below. We’ll camp about mid-way, and continue on a loop back to the trailhead on Sunday. We should arrive back in Nashville about 6pm Sunday evening.

RATING: Moderate

Logistics

WHERE: We’ll meet at the Hermitage Kroger parking lot, off of 40 & Old Hickory Blvd at 8:00 sharp. We’ll be traveling to the Leatherwood Ford Trailhead off Hwy 297 in the Big South Fork. Carpooling arrangements can be made in the week prior, and at the Kroger parking lot on Saturday.

    outside of the Smokies, Big South Fork may be the best backpacking area in Tennessee
