Nerissa Aquino

Nerissa has been a Team Green member since 2005. She was born and raised in Nashville, back when it was a sleepy “big” town. She did not come from an outdoorsy family, other than the occasional trout farm visit and road trips to California, Texas, and along the East coast to visit other family. Her relationship to nature developed in the wooded areas of West Meade along creeks that fed into our Harpeth River. She grew up with sports, music lessons, and dance classes. She is the child to Filipino immigrants, and spent a one-month long visit to the Philippines when she was four.

“So as big girl, ( I’m in my mid-30s now), I like a blend of moderate to strenuous outdoor adventure like rock-climbing as well as some easy-going competitive play with volleyball. I really like backpacking trips to escape the city and challenge my ‘survival’ skills, like learning what to pack and what I can live without. I also seek to see the world and find adventure with new wild places like the Andes in Peru, the slot canyons of Arizona, and barrier islands off the Georgia coast. It’s a bonus when there’s an educational component to my trips like a slideshow highlighting history, or an instructor’s tips for climbing, or how to control the hang glider a 4000 feet above the Georgia and Tennessee border! It’s awesome when live music is involved in an activity, or a language lesson. The best part of embracing outdoor play and exploration of the world is sharing it with my 8 year-old son and the numerous friends I’ve made along the way.

Being a Team Green member and staying involved as a TAG member has played a huge role in my quality of life living in Tennessee (the home I thought I would never come back to after college in the 1990s – hey, thought there was just too much of the world to experience). Yet, here I am, with my family and a new Nashville for that matter. Team Green Adventures is definitely a gem of an outlet to get plugged into. So come on out and join us, okay? You just never know what new interests and experiences are available to you!”
